The Township of King is embarking on a planning exercise to establish a vision, plan and implement land use regulations to guide redevelopment for priority core areas within the Villages of King City and Nobleton. These areas make up important parts of our community and include many of the essential amenities that make living in King so desirable. This project will involve the community to help define the future of these areas. This project includes the following core components: <ul style="list-style-type: disc;margin-left:undefined;"><li>Shared Visioning Exercise to establish the long-term vision for King City and Nobleton by identifying opportunities and goals to support the redevelopment of the priority areas.</li><li>Neighbourhood Plans that establish the framework to guide redevelopment and illustrate the redevelopment opportunities of the areas. </li><li>Official Plan Amendment and Community Planning Permit System (CPPS) to implement the vision and establish the enabling policies for the CPPS and CPP By-law(s) </li></ul> The CPPS will help to achieve the <a href="https://www.king.ca/development-growth/planning-land-use/official-plan">Our King Official Plan&rsquo;s</a> vision of a unified Township comprised of complete communities that are healthy, sustainable, and economically prosperous, while recognizing the unique character of each Village. Doctors Lane and Old King Road Neighbourhood Plans

BackgroundMost municipalities in Ontario have a Noise By-law that regulates when and what type of noise is allowed to occur. Noise is regulated by <a href="https://www.king.ca/sites/default/files/uploads/bylaws/81-142%20-%20Noise%20By-law%20%28Consolidation%29.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Noise By-law 81-142</a> in King. Under this noise by-law, amplified sound is not allowed at any time across the Township. To allow for special events, a delegation by-law was passed in 2015 authorizing the Township Clerk to exempt some activities from the Noise By-law through a noise exemption permit. The criteria for issuing noise exemption permits is currently being reviewed and we are seeking public input. What is the current Noise Exemption Permit Process? The current process allows residents and businesses to apply for a noise exemption permit for the amplification of noise such as music played through speakers or a live band for a limited amount of time. Each property in the Township is permitted up to three noise exemption permits per calendar year, up to a maximum of 1:00 a.m. for special events and occasions. Why is this review important?The Township wants to obtain public feedback from the King community and to evaluate the Noise Exemption Permit Process. The Township hopes to better understand: <ul><li>whether the community supports continuing to issue Noise Exemption Permits </li><li>what time amplified noise should be allowed to continue until</li><li>if there are particular noise related problems residents or businesses are having in their neighbourhood(s)</li><li>whether rural and urban areas of the Township should have different end times (i.e. should noise have to stop earlier in an urban neighbourhood) </li></ul>How do I provide my input?King is looking for feedback on the noise exemption permit process and wants to hear from you. Noise Exemption Permit Process Review

As part of the Nobleton Community Park Revitalization Strategy, changes are coming to the Nobleton Core. Part of those changes require a decision on the future of the aging Nobleton Community Hall/Nobleton Women&rsquo;s Institute. At this time, we are inviting citizens to provide their input on whether to relocate or demolish and commemorate the facility.Consideration for the next phase of the Nobleton Community Hall/Nobleton Women&rsquo;s Institute is required due to the Nobleton Community Park Revitalization Strategy that is currently underway. At the October 16, 2023 meeting of Council, Council endorsed the final concept in the Nobleton Lions Community Park Re-development Strategy Report <a href="https://king.civicweb.net/FileStorage/EEB7585351DB41D59B1F91264F5DFE41-Nobleton%20Lions%20Community%20Park%20Re-Development%20St.pdf">COM-2023-002</a>. Council amended the report to direct staff to conduct a community consultation on the future of the hall.

Nobleton Community Hall Consultation

The Township of King is in the process of completing a study focusing on the Highway 11 Corridor, a unique area located in the northeast part of the Township. The Corridor has historically functioned as a &lsquo;highway commercial area&rsquo; consisting of land uses that can be characterized as commercial and tourism oriented. The Corridor is recognized as contributing to a vibrant rural economy and is located at juncture of key connections to neighbouring municipalities therefore having strategic locational significance as a gateway to the Township. The Study will be completed in 3 phases to achieve the following objectives:Main Objectives:<ul><li>Delineate the Study Area and geographic extent of the implementing land use planning framework;</li><li>Develop an implementing land use planning framework that navigates applicable provincial plans and policy, while advancing Township and landowner interest in the desirable redevelopment of the Corridor that is representative of its strategic location and regional function; and</li><li>Implement a process that focuses on consultation with the community, landowners, key stakeholders, agencies, and Council.</li></ul>Project Phases:<ul><li>Phase 1: Draft Policy Discussion Paper and Study Area Delineation</li><li>Phase 2: Public Consultation Opportunities</li><li>Phase 3: Official Plan and Zoning By-law Amendments</li></ul>Stay Informed and Get Involved!We encourage your comments and input now and throughout the preparation of the Study. Highway 11 Corridor Study

The King Environmental Action Team (KEAT) will be established to implement actions set out by the Community Services Division and to address ongoing climate change, environmental stewardship, and other environmental issues within the Township of King. Environmental actions will be undertaken by Team members with the assistance of Community Services staff, to enhance and conserve the natural environment of King Township and support climate change mitigation efforts. More specifically, the KEAT will act as a link between citizens and Township Staff to address and to assist in implementing projects that will enhance the local community such as:<ol><li>Environmental outreach, public awareness, promotion; and </li><li>The promotion of greenspace, environmental restoration, and enhancement projects; and </li><li>Address climate change and sustainability issues impacting King Township; and</li><li> Help in obtaining grant funding to support local community lead environmental projects. </li></ol>We are currently seeking interested community groups, residents, and schools to join the KEAT. King Environmental Action Team

INTRODUCTIONThe Township of King is considering to undertake a Heritage Conservation District (HCD) Study along Main Street and surrounding areas in the Village of Schomberg. At the September 11, 2023 Council meeting, a motion was made by Council to direct staff to prepare a feasibility report outlining the costs, timelines, process and benefits associated with the preparation of a Heritage Conservation District under the Ontario Heritage Act for properties along Main Street Corridor and surrounding area in the Village of Schomberg. The preparation of this report is underway and is anticipated to return to Council on October 30, 2023 for further discussion. No decision has been determined by Council for any work to be completed for a heritage conservation district. This project page serves as an information page for residents and those interested in understanding the process associated with the development and creation of a heritage conservation district. The page will be updated if a decision by Council is made to advance the project further.Subscribe for updates at the top of the page to stay informed about opportunities to provide input.BACKGROUNDThe Village of Schomberg grew around the land and activities of the Brown brothers, Pennsylvania Quakers, who arrived in the 1830s. Before long there was a mill, a bank, general stores, a tannery, a blacksmith shop, a wagon shop, two shoe shops serving the 1850 population of 100. The community was first named Brownsville but the coming of the post office in 1862 saw the name change to Schomberg in honour of the Duke of Schomberg. Prosperity continued with the 1902 arrival of the Aurora &amp; Schomberg Railway terminus. There are currently 27 non-Designated (Listed) properties on the Township&#39;s Heritage Register and a minimum of 66 properties identified as Built Heritage Inventory. The properties in the Village Core rests along Main Street and its surrounding area is rich in history, culture, natural attractions, and heritage. The vision is to protect these cultural heritage resources to the greatest extent possible for future generations as they reflect the unique character and identity of Schomberg. Schomberg Heritage Conservation District 

King Township is starting a review of its Official Plan, titled &ldquo;Our King&rdquo;. The Official Plan Review will develop a roadmap to guide growth in King to the year 2051.The Official Plan affects every resident, business, and landowner in King Township. Our King establishes a comprehensive, long-term vision for the future of the Township as a whole and a detailed policy framework to guide growth in King. The Our King Official Plan was approved by York Region in September 2020 and development in the Township to the 2031 planning horizon. Since Our King was adopted, a number of changes have occurred that affect how the Township should plan for its future. The Official Plan Review will provide an opportunity to update the Official Plan to respond to these changes and guide growth in the Township to the year 2051. Community and stakeholder engagement will be essential to understand the needs and desires of the community to ensure that they are reflected in the vision for King.
