Description: Schomberg is a well-connected community, with a system of pathways and high quality streetscapes that facilitate a truly active community. Schomberg’s Main Street has maintained its characteristic charm and historic quality with a mix of uses including unique shops, restaurants, services and homes occupying well-maintained buildings that show great pride in ownership.

As a part of continuing revitalization efforts King Township is embarking on a redesign of Main Street in downtown Schomberg. The design concepts aim to advance a high-quality, integrated approach to enhancing and preserving Schomberg’s unique qualities. The Township hopes to improve the pedestrian network and connectivity to Main Street to further boost Schomberg’s reputation as a vibrant, authentic, historical community and a renowned destination for day tourists, cyclists and residents alike. This project aligns with recommendations out of the 2019 Main Street Revitalization Strategy and Action Plan.

Timeline: The Project is in the early design stages where we are developing and reviewing conceptual design options.

An Online Survey was conducted between May 7 and May 20, 2021, to gain input on the Schomberg Main Street Streetscaping Project. The Survey consisted of 14 questions and resulted in 202 participants. The questions required participants to describe their perception of the Streetscaping Project, elements of interest, and opportunities for the early Streetscape Plan. The responses have allowed for a greater understanding of the important components to community stakeholders, and how future developments can enhance the Downtown Schomberg experience.

You can review the summary under “Documents”.

The team has analysed the survey results and the majority of survey participants preferred Option 2: Alternating On-Street Parking. Based on the survey results and additional input received we will now proceed with Option 2.

This year the team will be focusing on further developing the design by looking at the materials and general components of the project to develop a streetscape plan. The streetscape plan will then be used to develop the detailed engineering drawings. This next step is not expected to take place until 2022.
