What is sustainability?
The most commonly adopted definition of sustainability is, "meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs." (Brundtland Report, 1987). This means the actions we take must protect, restore and enhance our natural environment and promote high quality of life today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
What is the purpose of the Program?
To expand upon the Township's sustainability policies to establish a set of metrics with the purpose of evaluating the sustainable performance of new developments in King Township.
Why is King Township developing a new Sustainable Development Program?
A sustainability program that includes green development standards was identified as a priority in the Township's Our King Official Plan, and the Township's 2023-2026 Corporate Strategic Plan. The new Program aligns with direction previously received from Council on September 12, 2022.
Where is ThinKING Green proposed to apply?
ThinKING Green is proposed to apply to all Site Plan Development and Draft Plan of Subdivision Applications throughout the Township.
