Private Tree By-law Consultation Survey

King recently shared a Draft Private Tree By-law at Committee of the Whole on June 10th, 2019, with the intent to receive feedback on the proposed by-law. This Draft By-law currently would only apply to the three Village Communities of King City, Nobleton, and Schomberg. For more information, you can read the Clerks Department report

Now we are looking to hear from you!

We are considering making revisions to the Draft Private Tree By-law and need your help. Public consultation is a key step to engage our community on this important topic. By completing this survey, you will help to inform  Council of the community's view of tree protection and desire for a Private Tree By-law in King. It will also help inform any future decisions of a draft by-law, with respect to its provisions, as well as the administration, enforcement, and education elements.

The results of this survey will be made available when staff report back to members of Council on the findings. Subject to the general consensus of the community, Staff will work to tailor the Draft By-law based on the comments and feedback received through consultations.

You need to be signed in to take this survey.

We all have to contribute to tree protection to preserve King's environment
I am not interested in tree protection
King's Private Tree By-law should focus only on protecting urban private trees (i.e. King City, Nobleton, & Schomberg).
King Township should have a tree protection by-law to protect all trees in the Township
Removing healthy trees on private property should only be authorized by a permit
An approved permit to remove a tree should be posted publicly before the tree is removed
If I remove a healthy tree (with a permit), I should replace it with three smaller native trees
If I don't want to plant replacement trees onto my property, I support contributing cash-in-lieu to the Township (reserve fund) to plant public trees elsewhere in King to enhance the tree canopy
Do you feel the cash-in-lieu value of $500 per replacement tree in the proposed Draft By-law is reasonable? (Note: The cash-in-lieu amount is what it costs King Township to purchase, plant, and maintain a viable tree with a 5-7cm DBH)
A permit (at no cost) should be required and posted to remove a dead, dying, or diseased tree on private property
On private property, a property owner should be able to remove a healthy tree without replacement requirements or cash-in-lieu if the removal is associated with a Building Permit (i.e. exemption)
