What is a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA)?
The Township of King is updating its Stormwater Management Master Plan through the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) process. This process helps municipalities identify stormwater challenges, explore solutions, and develop a long-term plan that balances community needs, environmental protection, and financial responsibility.
1. Identify the Problem or Opportunity
The study begins by gathering information about the existing stormwater system and understanding current and future challenges, such as flooding, infrastructure capacity, growth, environmental impacts, and climate change. This information is used to define the problems that need to be addressed and the opportunities for improvement.
2. Develop and Evaluate Alternative Solutions
Once the key issues are understood, a range of possible solutions is developed and evaluated. These may include infrastructure upgrades, stormwater management facilities, low-impact development measures and other strategies. Each option is assessed based on environmental, social, technical, and financial considerations.
3. Select a Preferred Solution
After reviewing the alternatives and considering public and stakeholder feedback, a preferred solution is identified. The preferred solution represents the approach that best meets the study objectives while providing long-term benefits to the community and environment.
4. Prepare the Master Plan
The preferred solution is documented in a Stormwater Management Master Plan that outlines recommended projects, policies, priorities, and implementation strategies. The plan serves as a roadmap for future stormwater investments and improvements across the Township
