Community Improvement Plan (CIP) Refresh
Consultation has concluded
The Community Improvement Plan for King City, Nobleton and Schomberg is an exciting action-oriented program that is being used to promote beautification, property improvements and economic development in the three communities. The Community Improvement Plan for King City, Nobleton and Schomberg is an exciting action-oriented program that is being used to promote beautification, property improvements and economic development in the three communities. A Community Improvement Plan is a document that is prepared in accordance with Section 28 of Ontario’s Planning Act. This tool is commonly used by municipalities to promote community revitalization.
Using the Community Improvement Plan, the Township can make grants available to property owners and businesses. The King Township Community Improvement Plan currently focuses on making grants available to property owners and businesses in the core areas of King City, Nobleton and Schomberg. The Plan includes programs to promote business façade/signage improvements; landscaping/property improvements; accessibility/cycling; as well as other matters. Please visit the CIP page on the Township's Website to learn more about this current Community Improvement Plan.
Now that the Community Improvement Plan is approximately 6 years old, there is a need to review its relevance and effectiveness. In particular, there is an opportunity to make grants available within other areas of the Township, including the Hamlets and rural/agricultural areas. There is also an opportunity to consider grants that will help businesses adapt to the current pandemic and future trends. This Review will result in an amendment to the Plan, including tweaks as well as potential new programs.

Ideas
over 3 years agoFiorellaabout 3 years agoNobleton- More landscape planting at entrances of Subdivisions and along Hwy 27
Each entrance to a subdivision could be enhanced with additional landscaping and planting. The recent Developers in Nobleton have provided the bare minimum in tree and landscape planting, allowing the subdivisions to look quite bare. For example, the entrance to the King Country Estates (Hwy 27 at Fairmont Ridge and Hwy 27 at Parkheights) subdivision could use evergreen trees, adding beauty, windblocking and some privacy. The boulevard on Fairmont Ridge (at Hwy 27) could use planting and trees as well, all adding to the beautification of the new Nobleton residential communities, which are quite bare and lacking in substantial landscaping.

The Village of Nobleton is missing a centralized Town square and a Main street. Since adding a Main street is not possible, the focus should be on picking a central location to turn into a Town Square. A place focused on pedestrian traffic, a general town "meeting spot" with a focus on gathering and small shops. It seems the St. Phillips plaza is quickly become such meeting place. Could we strategize ways in which this area can become more of a Town Square. Some ideas could be: adding additional landscape planting along the plaza along Hwy 27; attracting small business owners and unique shops; using the location to host community holiday events; install better lighting to highlight the area; installing lighting at Christmas on the lamp posts.

The current CIP application process hinders a business' progress to start or continue operating e.g. if they need a grant for construction or signage. The city requires an applicant to wait until the application is approved, which can and has taken months (even before COVID). As long as businesses have before and after photos plus receipts, the grant application should be approved retrospectively if it qualifies.

With home owners on the brink of bankruptcy, and business forced to close by law, The township should be very very frugal at this time. To see money spent on beautification when people are loosing their homes is disgraceful. Nice idea, but now is not the time.
